Timothy Buxton, convicted of skimming cash from his Reno tire business to evade taxes, was sentenced last week by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Edward C. Reed to 12 months home confinement and five years of probation for felony income tax evasion.

J. Wesley Eddy, a special agent in charge of IRS criminal investigations, said Buxton pleaded guilty in September to evading federal taxes for the year 2000.

In his plea agreement, Buxton admitted that he skimmed cash sales from his business, Tires Unlimited in Reno, during 1999 through 2001, causing a tax loss of $233,586. He admitted that he prepared false documents and altered others to conceal the skimming from the person who prepared his taxes and the IRS.

Buxton also admitted to collecting and keeping Nevada state sales tax totaling $199,228 for those three years.
