The Nevada Department Motor Vehicles continues to look for high-traffic retail locations where it can install self-service kiosks to handle registration and drivers' license renewals.
The DMV said last week it's launching kiosks in four private-sector locations in northern Nevada the Reno office of California State Automobile Association as well as three Winner's Circle stores.
Tom Jacobs, a DMV spokesman, said the agency wants to expand the kiosk program to other locations such as grocery stores or other retail spots.
"We're willing to expand this program as far as we can," he said.
DMV particularly liked the Winner's Corner locations because they're open 24 hours a day, allowing state residents to handle their transactions after business hours.
The first DMV kiosks at private locations were installed at AAA locations in the Las Vegas area last year, and they're also available at DMV offices.
They've handled about 500,000 transactions since the spring of 2004, and users typically take less than three minutes to finish their business.
Negotiations with Winner's Corner, Jacobs said, took close to a year as numerous details ranging from the kiosks' footprint to arrangements to service the machines needed to be hammered out.
