The success of the SciFi Channel series "Ghost Hunters" inspired a Silver Springs woman to capitalize on the show's premise of capturing the supernatural on video or similar recording device.
Lisa Reyna specializes in electronic voice phenomena (EVP), or recording the voices of spirits through electronic means. Reyna recently applied for a Lyon County business license and founded Nevada Spirit Seekers to spread the word of a growing trend and to lend a higher degree of credibility to her efforts.
"Everyone wants to be a ghost hunter," she says. "There are definitely more ghost hunter groups out there than ever. We are a serious group. We want to help and educate people, and it looks better when you go in a person's home and are licensed and have done some schooling. There are technical ways of doing EVP."
Reyna expects word of her services to spread through a network of friends and other spirit seekers. She is also building a website to increase her presence, and eventually she would like to produce a show similar to "Ghost Hunters."
Reyna struck on the idea to found Nevada Spirit Seekers when she entered the home of a friend and taped recordings of that person's mother. This weekend she is headed for a ghost hunters' retreat in California in order to further cement her name in spirit-seeking circles.
