Construction is under way on the 35,000-square-foot Somersett Town Center in northwest Reno, and wine retailer Whispering Vine is among the first to lease space.

The 35,000-square-foot center is in two buildings on a 3.8-acre site on Town Square Way.

Whispering Vine leased 2,347 square feet in the center, and the company owned by Curtis Worrall plans a coffee drive-through along with the wine store.

It's the second location for Whispering Vine, whose flagship location is at 3886 Mayberry Drive.

Other early tenants in the center will include Dickson Realty, Associated Management and Somersett Development Co. Spaces range from 500 square feet.

The center is expected to draw heavily from the nearby Somersett residential developments, which are projected at 3,300 homes when they're built out. Currently, 1,460 homes have been sold in the golf-oriented community.

The median age of the neighborhood is 34.5, although it's expected to rise as Sierra Canyon by Del Webb, an age-restricted, 55-plus community, becomes a larger factor in the Somersett demographic.

Devcon Construction Inc. is general contractor of the commercial center, which is scheduled for completion this summer.

Architect Michelle Ney of Devcon designed the center with two-story buildings connected by a landscaped plaza that can be used for special events.

Leasing of the center is overseen by Alliance Commercial Real Estate Services and Jamie Krahne of Somersett Development.
