John Breternitz, executive vice president of Q&D Construction, said last week he will retire early next year after a 22-year career with the company and will run for Washoe County commissioner.

Q&D President Norman Dianda said Joe Serpa will become Q&D's chief executive officer in January.

The company also is expanding its board to include directors outside the Dianda family. Chris Dianda will become vice chairman of the board and will be the day-to-day contact between the board and Serpa.

During Breternitz' career with Q&D, the Sparks-based company grew from 50 employees to nearly 1,000.
