The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada will trim six positions about a quarter of its staff at the end of this month.
Chuck Alvey, president and chief executive officer of EDAWN, said the layoffs are the result of a decision by the Nevada Legislature this year to reduce funding to EDAWN by $1.75 million over the next two years $875,000 annually. EDAWN needs to balance its budget at the lower level.
Even before the legislative action, Alvey said, EDAWN executives had been considering staff reductions as the big workload involved with the agency's Target2010 economic planning effort came to an end.
