Krump Construction, a Reno-based general contractor since 1967, said last week it formed a strategic relationship with international construction giant Sundt Construction of Tempe, Ariz.
Krump will wind up its current jobs, and its construction schedules and project staff won't be affected by the move. Future projects, however, will be contracted under the Sundt name.
The two companies formed a relationship in August of 2006 on two projects totaling $235 million to build two hospitals at Mammoth Lakes, Calif.
Krump Construction President Tim Krump said the two companies decided at that time to limit their venture relationship to one or two projects at a time. As a result both companies passed on numerous other new business opportunities.
"It became clear that there was a significant advantage to joining forces on a long-term basis," Krump said.
"For Krump, we will gain the resources necessary to manage a higher volume of work. For Sundt, they will gain increased access to the hospitality industry through the connections and relationships Krump has been able to develop over time. This new arrangement removes any limitations we have had on the number of projects we can take on jointly and allows increased opportunities for both companies."
Among Krump's projects in the Truckee Meadows have been the National Bowling Stadium, the National Auto Museum Peppermill towers and Boomtown.
Krump's workforce averages 150 employees, and the company operates in the $100 million range per year. Privately held Sundt Construction Inc., is one of the 100 largest construction companies in the United States.
