Alere Medical Inc., which got new owners in a $175 million acquisition in April, last week got a bevy of new faces in its executive suite as well.

The key appointment: Janet Tewhill was promoted to president and chief operating officer of the Reno-based company and will oversee day-to-day operations.

She previously was executive vice president and COO as the company nearly doubled in size in the past year.

Alere, Reno-based and privately held, provides disease-management services for patients with chronic conditions such as asthma, heart failure and diabetes. It serves about 84,000 patients from four centers around the nation.

The company was acquired this spring by TA Associates, a Boston-based private equity company.

Along with the promotion of Tewhill, executive changes announced last week include:

* Gordon K. Norman, M.D., named executive vice president and chief science officer. He previously was chief medical officer.

* Jon Tropsa, named executive vice president and chief financial officer. He succeeds the retiring Wayne Krachun. Tropsa most recently was CFO of Aptuit of Connecticut and also has held senior finance positions at Dictaphone and ChiRex.

* Timothy J. Moore, M.D., promoted to chief medical officer. He previously oversaw Alere's sales and client services.

* Michael Majerik, named executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer. It's a new position for the company. Majerik previously was executive vice president of sales for CorSolutions.

* Douglas Albro, named executive vice president and chief information officer. It's another new position. Albro previously worked at BCBS Excellus in Rochester, N.Y., and also held an information technology management position with Humana.
