Wild Oats Markets Inc. nixed a planned move to the vacant Good Guys big box store at Firecreek Crossing on Kietzke Lane at South McCarran.

Wild Oats plans to remodel its existing store in Reno rather than relocate it, says Sonja Tuitele, senior director of corporate communications and investor relations of the company based at Boulder, Colo.

Wild Oats will invest up to $1 million in the remodeling to bring the store up to the standards of the current prototype stores, she said.

That means the Good Guys building remains empty, says Tammy Lord, listing agent with Voit Development in Las Vegas. However, Lord believes she stirred up interest in the property at the recent International Council of Shopping Centers convention in Las Vegas.

Whole Foods Market Inc., meanwhile, has made no change in its plans to open in the vacant ShopKo location on South Virginia Street at Neil Road.

Whole Foods said in February it planned to acquire Wild Oats. But the merger plan was derailed last month when the Federal Trade Commission threatened to file suit to block the merger.

Wild Oats Markets and Whole Foods Market said they plan to challenge the ruling.
