The Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce is casting a wide net for a new chief executive officer but its board thinks there's a also possibility the new CEO might be someone who's already working in northern Nevada.
The chamber's board has advertised the opening through a network of 800 chambers of commerce in 14 Western states, and the board might undertake the expense of an executive recruiter to search for a new CEO in the private sector.
"But maybe we have the person right here in our community already," said interim CEO Fred Boyd.
He said a handful of resumes already are beginning to trickle in. The top staff job at the chamber came open in December when Harry York retired abruptly after holding the post for 12 years.
Boyd said the chamber's board seeks a CEO with collaborative skills to build alliances, with strong administrative skills including finance and human resources and with good ability to communicate the value of the chamber to its members.
The CEO oversees a staff of about 15 and an annual budget of approximately $1 million.
Boyd said the board hopes to fill the position by mid-April to early May.
