The Nevada Chapter of the Associated General Contractors has recognized top construction projects in the region with its Pinnacle Awards.
General contractors vie for the Pinnacle Award in the under and over $5 million categories, while specialty contractors vie for the award in the over or under $500,000 categories. Twenty-three projects were nominated for the the awards this year.
Winning in the specialty contractor category was Martin Ironworks for meeting the challenge of a difficult job at its Sierra Nevada project, as well as for excellence in project Management for its work on the Peppermill Hotel Casino events center, both in the over $500,000 category.
Pinnacle Award winners in the General Contractor category were:
* Granite Construction for meeting the challenge of a difficult job during repaving around the Veterans Medical Center, a job under $5 million.
* Q & D Construction for meeting the challenge of a difficult job at Highlands View Road at Northstar, over $5 million. The company also won the Contractor's Innovation in Techniques or Materials award for work at the Feigin residence, a job of more than $5 million.
* Sierra Nevada Construction for excellence in project Management for the Neil-Kietzke Rroundabout in the under $5 million category, as well as sensitivity to environment, history and culture for the large Virginia City 1.43 million gallon water tank, under $5 million. The company also was recognized for excellence in client service for its work at the Manogue athletic fields upgrade for the University of Nevada, Reno.
* PENTA Group was recognized for excellence in client service for the Joe F. Crowley Student Union, more than $5 million.
* Moody-Weiske Contractors was recognized for contractor's innovation for its work at 250 Bell Street, in the under $5 million category.
