Golden Phoenix Minerals of Sparks said last week it hired a consultant to study reopening of its Mineral Ridge gold mine in Esmeralda County.

The company bought the mine in 2000, operated it for two years and closed down its operation in 2005.

Mineral Ridge has produced gold on and off for several owners since 1864, both from underground workings and surface mining.

West Coast Environmental and Engineering will update the feasibility report for Golden Phoenix, which owns 100 percent of the Mineral Ridge property.
