People Burning Fat Productions, a Reno company that produces long-distance relay runs, said last week it struck a deal to create an event in the Washington, D.C., region beginning in 2009.

The 200-mile American Odyssey Relay Run Adventure will start at Gettysburg, Pa., and travel through Maryland before ending at the Washington Mall, said Eric Lerude, president of People Burning Fat Productions.

The company founded in 2004 already produces the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey and the Arizona Odyssey at Tucson. In those events, teams of a dozen runners take turns over about 24 hours completing courses that total about 200 miles.

The East Coast event will be produced as a joint venture with Xtend Fitness of Bethesda, Md.
