Work has started on a second four-lane highway within the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.
The road named East Britain Drive will extend five miles into Eagle Valley, the 5,000-acre second phase of the industrial complex east of Sparks.
The road will be extended as the second phase of the project grows, said developer Lance Gilman.
Development Arts Inc. and McShane Companies are developing speculative industrial projects in the Eagle Valley area.
Nevada Comstock Communications of Reno, meanwhile, has completed the first stretch of a fiber optic telecommunications system to serve the industrial center.
The company has run 15 miles of cable down the south side of Interstate 80 from the industrial center into Reno. Crews now are running a similar cable back to the industrial complex along the north side of I-80.
The completed network will include more than 160 miles of fiber-optic cable at the 104,000-acre industrial center.
Ultimately, developers envision the network as a loop that also will run south from Tahoe Reno Industrial Center to Highway 50, then west of Carson City and north to Reno, said Al Lachner, development director for Nevada Comstock Communications.
