Kenneth Kunkel has been named as executive director of the division of atmospheric sciences at the Desert Research Institute.
Kunkel previously was interim chief of the Illinois State Water Survey and had worked nine years as director of the atmospheric sciences center at the Illinois agency. He also has worked as state climatologist in New Mexico.
He earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and master's and doctoral degrees in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
