Luminosity, a manufacturers rep for 70 lighting companies, will expand this month when it moves into 5,500 square feet at 5470 Louie Lane.

Founded in 2006, the company had worked out of 3,100 square feet at 8755 Technology Way. Tom Miller of Miller Industrial Properties LLC put together the real estate deal.

The company's first task in retrofitting its new digs, says President Patrick O'Flaherty, will be replacing the existing light fixtures with energy-efficient lighting.

"With the changeover we'll walk the talk," he says.

The move will increase Luminosity's warehouse space, allowing it to increase inventory specifically, its stock of T5HO fluorescent high day lights.

"In 2009, the growth opportunity is in retrofitting," says O'Flaherty. "Thousands of those will be sold next year. In our marketplace, 15,000 to 20,000."

The demand for replacement of metal halide lighting with T5HOs will cut energy usage nearly in half, he says. Each of the standard warehouse lights consumes 460 watts, compared to 240 watts for the retrofit bulb. Rebates offered by NV Energy are driving the changeover.

Plus, the T5HOs provide a higher quality, full spectrum light that renders colors more true to the eye, adds O'Flaherty.

Luminosity concentrates on the northern Nevada region, working with electrical wholesalers and contractors, who install the warehouse lights. With new construction down, says O'Flaherty, Luminosity relies on its relationships with those companies to succeed.
