Husqvarna Professional Products Inc., a supplier of outdoor power equipment, plans to open a distribution center in Reno in early 2009.

The company will employ six fulltime workers plus temporary employees during its busy selling seasons, said Bob Alexander, the company's chief financial officer.

Husqvarna leased 90,000 square feet from ProLogis in the Silver Lake

Business Park. The space previously was vacant.

Alexander said the Reno distribution center will serve customers on the West Coast. The company distributes chain saws, ride-on and push mowers, trimmers, blowers and other outdoor equipment.

Alexander said the center is expected to be in operation by April 1.

Brandon Page, vice president and market officer for ProLogis, said the company's space in the Reno area now is 94 percent filled. ProLogis is the largest industrial landlord in the region, with 16.4 million square feet of space in 105 buildings.

Ohio-based Husqvarna Professional Products Inc. is part of Sweden's Husqvarna AB, the world's largest producer of lawn mowers, chain saws and portable gas-powered garden equipment.
