Contracts were awarded in late December for a 2,200-foot floodwall and levee on the south bank of the Truckee River from U.S. 395 to the Glendale Avenue Bridge.
Naomi Duerr, director of the Truckee River Flood Control Project, said groundbreaking is expected in mid-January. The flood control project, Wal-Mart and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony are splitting the cost of the $5.8 million floodwall. It will protect a Wal-Mart store and a Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Cultural Center to be built on the property as well as the Northern Nevada Restitution Center.
Campbell Construction Co. Inc. of Sparks will be the general contractor, CFA Inc, of Reno will be the civil engineer, and Kleinfelder of Reno will perform materials testing and inspections.
