Scooter sales skyrocketed throughout northern Nevada last summer when motorists looked for ways to save money on $4 a gallon gas.
But falling fuel prices and snowy streets combined to curb scooter sales, says Craig Knapp, general manager of Freedom Cycle in south Reno.
Even with the sharp decline in fuel prices, Freedom Cycles sold more scooters in 2008 than the previous year, Knapp says, with demand almost outweighing supply during the summer.
Knapp says winter is a good time to buy a new scooter or motorcycle, even if it means garaging it for a few months.
"During the winter dealers are willing to negotiate a little more," he says.
