Last year's merger of Inter-Tel Technologies with Mitel Networks Corp. appears likely to generate more jobs at Inter-Tel's operation in Reno.
Inter-Tel Technologies, a developer of business telephone systems ranging from a single handset to integrated hardware and software packages for call centers, expects that employment at its Reno facility will top 200 by mid-year, says Doug Gaylor, a senior vice president.
Inter-Tel currently employs about 185 in Reno plus about four dozen temporary workers and that number is up from 160 about a year ago.
The job growth is coming as Mitel, a Canadian company, looks to consolidate some operations after its takeover of Inter-Tel and also expects to see organic growth of the functions overseen by workers in Reno.
Among the work handled at the company's 76,800-square-foot facility in South Meadows is customer relations and technical support, a leasing operation and outbound telemarketing. The facility also houses its Reno sales operation headed by Regional Sales Manager Steve Kiser.
The operations will be rebranded with the Mitel name in coming months.
The Reno operation will see a fair amount of growth, Gaylor says, because it has the management and physical infrastructure in place to handle more employees.
The Reno office is one of three major facilities for Mitel. Along with its corporate headquarters at Kanata, Ontario, it operates a major office at Phoenix, which was the headquarters of Inter-Tel before the merger.
