As tight credit markets continue to squeeze business lending, the Nevada Small Business Development Center, Small Business Administration and lenders have scheduled a business loan clinic over five days in Reno.

The event at the University of Nevada, Reno, Redfield Campus August 4-8 is designed to allow small business borrowers to learn about conventional bank loans as well as SBA programs that help clear hurdles that keep some businesses from tapping into capital.

Among the programs to be discussed:

* Loans for commercial real estate occupied by their business owners as well as loans for equipment.

* Loans up to $2 million for companies with demonstrated ability to repay borrowings.

* Business loans up to $250,000 for start-up businesses.

* Free technical assistance that's available to business borrowers.

The SBA Express program, which allows existing businesses with two-year track records to borrow up to $100,000, will be set up to accept on-line applications from borrowers during the clinic.

If businesses plan to apply for loans during the clinic, all owners need to be present. Some loans to start-up companies may require borrowers to receive business counseling.

Commercial banks will have booths with information about lending, business checking accounts and other banking relationships.

Certified development companies that operate in Nevada also will have staff on hand.

Agencies that will be present include the Nevada Microenterprise Initiative, the Service Corps of Retired Executives and Veterans Business Outreach Center.

Applicants can attend any one of six sessions. Sessions will begin at 5 p.m. on August 4, 5, 7 and 8. On August 6, sessions are scheduled at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
