Janet Geary

Janet Geary has been named publisher of Nevada Magazine, a division of the Nevada Commission on Tourism. She succeeds Joyce Hollister, who retired after seven years with the magazine.

Geary has held sales and sales management positions with newspapers including the Nevada Appeal and the Reno Gazette-Journal in Nevada and the Albany Democrat Herald and Statesman Journal in Oregon. Her publishing experience includes work at The Record-Courier in Gardnerville, Nev., and The World newspaper in Coos Bay, Ore.

She earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Peter Andrews

Maximo Lopez

Susan Reavis

Peter Andrews, Maximo Lopez and Susan Reavis have been named to management positions by Renown Health.

Andrews was named director of facilities at Renown Regional Medical Center.

He previously was a mechanical engineering team leader with MACTEC Engineering and Consulting Inc. and has 23 years of experience in facilities management and construction project management.

Lopez was named director of environmental services for Renown Regional Medical Center.

He most recently worked as linen assistant director for Sodexho Healthcare at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. He had worked with Sodexho since 2000.

Reavis, a registered nurse, was named director of women's outpatient services for Renown Health.

She most recently worked as emergency room case manager for Scottsdale HealthCare in Scottsdale, Ariz. Reavis received her nursing degree at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbannais, Ill. She also has a master's degree in midwifery from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and completed a one-year fellowship in addiction medicine at Harvard Medical in Boston, Mass.

Vickie Brooke

Cristina Torres

Vickie Brooke and Cristina Torres have joined Clearstar Financial Credit Union as branch managers.

Brooke was named manager of Clearstar's main Reno location on Bible Way.

She has worked in financial services in Reno since 1979, became a mortgage loan processor in 1987 and was a branch manager of a mortgage processing firm before she returned to banking in 2007.

Torres was named manager of the credit union's branch in northwest Reno.

She previously was an assistant manager with US Bank.

Linda Narigon

Linda Narigon has joined the Reno office of Wood Rogers, an engineering, planning and survey firm, as a water resource engineer.

Narigon, who has 15 years experience in the industry, recently passed the examination to become a Certified Floodplain Manager.

She is a graduate of Iowa State University.

Daniel Westman

Daniel Westman has been hired as a field operations manager for Reno-based United Construction Co.

Westman, who has 30 years experience in the construction industry, previously worked as a general superintendent and construction manager for 13 multi-family projects.

Lisa Dunagan

Lisa Dunagan has joined the Reno office of RE/MAX Realty Affiliates as a sales agent.

She became a full-time Realtor in 2003 after working as an elementary school teacher in Washoe County.

Dunagan earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Mary M. Morris

Mary M. Morris has joined the staff at Alpine Insurance in Reno as the life and health customer service agent.

Morris has 15 years of experience in the insurance industry.

Naomi Layosa

Jeremy Irwin

Naomi Layosa will join the University of Phoenix Northern Nevada campus as its academic affairs coordinator next month. Layosa is also is pursuing a bachelor's degree in human services at the University of Phoenix.

Jeremy Irwin has been promoted to senior faculty liaison at the university and will promote and manage the school's professional development series to businesses in the region.James W. Forsythe, M.D

James W. Forsythe, M.D., a Reno physician, has been named to the board of directors of HST Global Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company headquartered in Hampton, Va.

Forsythe is an associate professor of medicine and pathology at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the owner and medical director of Cancer Screening and Treatment Center of Nevada and Century Wellness Clinic.

CPA society officers

Michael Davis, a director with Barnard, Vogler and Company in Reno, will serve this year as president-elect of the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Other northern Nevada CPAs elected to leadership positions with the organization include Nikki Kirkhouse, director of corporate audits for IGT, treasurer; and Sharon Uithoven, executive director of the Nevada Society of Certified Public Account-ants, secretary.

Board members from northern Nevada include Diane Parkinson, senior assurance manager for Grant Thornton's Reno office and president of the CPA society's Reno chapter; Lynda Hartzell, chief deputy auditor for the Nevada State Gaming Control Board; Sheri Russell, a manager with Kafoury Armstrong & Company's Reno office; and Laurel Jackson, a shareholder in Kafoury Armstrong & Co., who is the CPA society's immediate past president.

Lewis and Roca lawyers

Bruce Beesley, Sean McGuiness and Leif Reid of the Reno office of the law firm Lewis and Roca have been included in the 2008 edition of "Mountain States Super Lawyers." Selection is based on peer review.

Beesley specializes in bankruptcy law, McGuinness in gaming law and Reid in administrative law.

Rick Bareuther

Rick Bareuther, manager of the information technology department for the?City of Sparks, has been elected third vice president of GMIS International, an professional association for IT leaders in the public sector.

Jonathan D. Jaffrey

Jonathan D. Jaffrey, the president and a founding partner of Springbanc Philanthropy Advisors in Los Angeles, has been nominated to serve as an independent director on the board of GoldSpring Inc., a publicly held mining company headquartered at Gold Hill near Virginia City.

Norm Pytel, area director with Charter Media, has been elected chairperson of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.

Other officers of the nonprofit during the fiscal year that began this month will include Paul Diflo, global IT systems director with International Game Technology, chairperson elect; Joe Jasmon, president of American Health Care Consulting, treasurer; and Kevin LeVezu, senior vice president with Bank of the West, secretary.

WEACT board

Dixie Craig of Olsen & Associates, Stephanie LaPlace of OCM Lee Hecht Harrison and Helyse Sina of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada have been named to the board of directors of the Women Executives Accelerating Change Today better known as WEACT a professional development group in Reno.
