Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center will launch a robotics assisted surgical system.
The da Vinci Surgical System allows surgeons to work at a console that provides a three-dimension image of the patient. The technology translates the surgeon's hand and wrist movements into instructions for surgical instruments inside the patient's body.
The system is manufactured by Intuitive Surgical Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., which has more than 700 installations nationwide. The five installations in Nevada include Renown Health in Reno, which installed the system last winter.
Saint Mary's executives said the first surgery with the system at their hospital is scheduled for July.
