After two decades of offering customized English-in-the-workplace classes to large employers, Truckee Meadows Community College is launching classes targeted at employees of smaller companies as well.

The school's workplace development and continuing education division will launch reg-ular classes in workplace English on April 14.

The classes are scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through May 14. Registration deadline for the courses is April 9.

"We've found that there are many small businesses that want their employees to learn to speak, read and comprehend English, but don't have the numbers of employees to justify a specially-tailored program just for their business," said Anastasia Sefchick, the program manager in charge of workplace language training in the TMCC workplace development division.

Workplace English I focuses on listening and speaking skills, while Workplace English II is designed for employees who have achieved basic English skills and want to focus on grammar, comprehension, accuracy and fluency.

Each course costs $119. To register, go to http://wdce.tmcc.edu and click on "Classroom Courses," then "Languages" or call 829-9010.
