A new Mack and Volvo Truck dealership being built on East Greg Street in Sparks will deliver revenue to northern Nevada that was formerly lost to Utah and California, says Dave Thompson, president of TEC Equipment.
TEC Equipment, the Portland, Ore.-based dealership authorized to sell Volvo and Mack trucks in the western United States, is building a 34,000-square-foot dealership across the street from the Alamo Travel Center on five acres that Thompson purchased from Reno Mayor Bob Cashell.
TEC Equipment currently services Mack and Volvo trucks in Reno through a small, single-service bay parts distributorship on Glendale Avenue. In addition to providing full parts and maintenance services, the new building will sell Mack construction equipment such as dump trucks and mixers, and Volvo 18-wheel big rigs.
"The city will see incremental income by catching Utah and California money," Thompson says. "Mack and Volvo combined have a market share of 21 to 22 percent. Now that money will be spent here. We are not chopping the pie up, we are adding to the pie."
Reno was the last major metropolitan city in the western United States that was not directly served by Mack and Volvo, Thompson says.
TEC Equipment has 11 franchise stores throughout the West.
The project, built by Sterling Builders, was originally slated to be finished in September, but due to the complexity of erecting the steel frame the timeline for completion is now October or November, builder Mike Sterling says.
Adds Thompson: "This plan has been in the works for a while, and it's been long time getting there."
