After just four years in Reno, Balance Systems, a subsidiary of Amesbury Group, has closed its distribution and manufacturing facility in northern Nevada.

A company spokesman declined comment on why Balance Systems left, but said most of the employees took relocation assistance in lieu of a transfer.

About 80 people worked at the plant.

The Reno facility manufactured window and door systems and distributed products from all Amesbury Group companies (headquartered in South Dakota) to West Coast markets.

Amesbury's presence translated to a $16 million annual economic impact, says the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.

The vacated space, 32,000 square feet at 875 E. Patriot Blvd. in Southwest Commerce Center, includes 2,000 square feet of office space. It's part of a 176,000-square-foot, multi-tenant building owned by Multi-Employer Property Trust.

CB Richard Ellis is handling sublease of the space. Amesbury Group's lease runs through April 2009, said Michael Nevis, senior associate at CB Richard Ellis.
