Selco Products Co. will move its manufacturing operations from Anaheim, Calif. to Reno, says Jim Reed, president and chief operating officer.

The company makes and distributes thermostats, thermal protectors and other controls used in food service, medical and other applications.

The company will occupy a 29,703-square-foot facility on more than two acres at 8780 Technology Way.

United Construction is the general contractor on the $3 million building scheduled for completion in April.

Selco will begin operations in May or June, says Reed.

Selco employs 40, and Reed says 25 of those will relocate with the company. Locally, it may hire for assembly, shipping, sales and customer service, he adds.

"Logistically, we could locate anywhere, because we distribute throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico," says Reed, but company principals chose Reno for its light traffic, clean air, low crime and the state's tax advantages.

Construction of the Reno plant includes a shipping and receiving area, a manufacturing and assembly section for the fabrication of control equipment, and office space, says a spokesperson for United Construction.
