Ironworkers Local No. 118 has begun construction on a training facility in Stead.

The $2.9 million, 10,200-square-foot facility at 14295 Mount Bismark St. near the airport in Stead will include offices, classrooms, and a welding shop in a concrete tilt-up building.

Q&D Construction is the general contractor on the project.

The facility allows for specialized training of ironworkers. Outside areas, for instance, include space for erection of steel structures and placement of reinforcing.

The building designed by Don Mackey Architect Ltd. of Sparks features an exterior metal framework that celebrates the iron craft.
