Construction is finished on the first retail center in the sprawling Tahoe Reno Industrial Center east of Sparks, and its owner is working to get the six storefronts leased.
The 9,600-square-foot USA Commerce Center may not seem like a big deal in town, it would be just another small strip center but it represents the first time that the 8,000 daytime employees of the industrial center will have retail and service businesses nearby. Outside of a gas station at Mustang, the nearest stores and restaurants are in Sparks, about 10 miles to the west.
Vince Griffith, the president of Reno Engineering Corp., developed the project, and his Comstock Builders was the general contractor.
He said potential tenants are likely to include lunch- and breakfast-oriented restaurants, a day care center, a copy and mail center, a hardware store and a bank. None of the spaces have yet been leased.
The property is along Britain Drive, about a mile from the USA Parkway exit from Interstate 80. The property potentially might include four similar-sized retail buildings.
Chris Martin of Reno South Meadows Commercial Properties is overseeing leasing.
