Bush Industries Inc., a manufacturer of ready-to-assemble furniture, will begin operation of a distribution center at Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in May.
The distribution center will employ about 10 hourly workers and a two-person management staff led by Mark Eberlin, a regional distribution manager for Bush Industries.
The company leased 86,000 square feet in a building owned by ProLogis at 2555 USA Parkway. Tom Miller of Miller Industrial Properties represented Bush Industries in the negotiations with ProLogis.
Sam Campoli, vice president of strategic accounts with Bush, said last week the new distribution center was created as the company headquartered at Jamestown, N.Y., seeks to serve its customers in the western
United States more efficiently.
The company's office furniture and home entertainment furniture products are sold through retailers such as Office Depot, OfficeMax and Best Buy.
Shipments to West Coast customers from a Bush distribution center at Erie, Pa., often takes five to seven days to reach customers. From the new distribution center east of Sparks, shipments can reach 11 Western states with one or two days.
The center will serve customers west of Colorado, including those in Hawaii and Alaska.
Campoli said the company was drawn to the site in northern Nevada by the availability of affordable real estate and the availability of workers skilled in distribution and logistics. Nevada's business-friendly tax environment was another key factor.
The site at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center provides easy access to Interstate 80, the company official said, and USA Parkway outside its front door will provide a short-cut to Las Vegas once it's linked to Highway 50 to the south.
