The Regional Technical Institute, a vocational school at 380 Edison Way in Reno, is getting an extensive makeover.
West Coast Contractors of Nevada Inc. is building a $11.7 million, 46,000-square-foot addition to the existing Washoe County School facility. Once finished, the school will be rebranded the Academy of Arts,
Careers and Technology. Construction is expected to be completed this fall.
Andy Ramirez, vice president of West Coast Contractors, says the new two-story addition will house a massive casino-sized kitchen with bakery and restaurant area, a banking classroom, robotics laboratory, biotech lab, an agriculture classroom with attached greenhouse, a dance room, and a fitness instruction center and locker room.
"It certainly gives the kids a lot of opportunities," Ramirez says. "It is a pretty neat facility for the high school level."
West Coast Contractors will begin remodeling the existing school facility during summer break.
