In addition to funding received under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Washoe County also obtained $3.8 million in federal stimulus money for restoration of fire-damaged areas in the hills surrounding the Truckee Meadows.
Work is expected to begin this year. Washoe County plans to choose larger engineer, planning and environmental companies to work on job specifications, bid documents, and request for qualifications from subcontractors. Subs include companies that work in mapping, irrigation, soil erosion control, tree thinning, weed clearance and other landscape-related work.
The county will host a workshop Aug. 27 at the Associated General Contractors office, 5400 Mill St., from 12:30-3:30 p.m. to inform prime and subcontractors on the requirements for bidding for government contracts. Lynda Nelson, Washoe County parks and open space planning manager, will keynote.
Fire restoration is planned for areas ravaged by the Hawken, Peavine, Rancho Haven/Red Rock, Arrowcreek, Skinner, Belli Ranch and Martis fires.
