Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller's office will be responsible for issuing the state business licenses beginning Oct. 1.

The licenses currently are issued by the Department of Taxation.

The legislation that shifted responsibility for business licenses to the Secretary of State also provides for development of a new business Internet portal by the Secretary of State's office. It will allow one-stop service for businesses incorporated in Nevada as the secretary of state's office also manages corporate filings.

All entities that conduct business in Nevada are required to hold a business license.

The change in the administration of the state business license will enable businesses to apply, pay the license fee and be issued a state business license at www.nvsos.gov. Online payment options will be expanded to included debit card, e-check, credit card or a trust account, Miller said.
