The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Service is looking to generate more revenue from its camp along the shores of Lake Tahoe by renting the facility for business meetings.
Open for just the second year in the winter, the rustic camp offers a recently built lodge that can accommodate up to 56 people, as well as 14 individual cabins. In all the camp can house 224 campers and includes a 200-seat amphitheater and 350 feet of private beach.
Camp manager Travis Lee says the traditional outdoor activities offered at the camp hiking and kayaking in the summer, and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter allow a higher level of employee
intercommunication and interaction than typically found around the office.
"The programs are basically something you get at a typical conference, but in a rustic setting," Lee says.
"The activities open up a lot of communication issues and allow managers to understand what it means to lead a team."
Lee also can arrange other team-building activities.
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is the public outreach arm of the university. The Web site for the camp is www.unce.unr.edu/4H/camp.
