A 242-megawatt coal-fired generating station built by Fluor Corp. for Newmont Mining in northern Nevada has been recognized by Power magazine as one of its "top plants."
The plant in Eureka County about 60 miles west of Elko was completed last May, only 27 months after Newmont gave its OK. The magazine noted the plant includes numerous advanced technologies, and its startup was so smooth that the plant produced $3 million more in electricity than Newmont had expected.
The mining company uses most of the power for its facilities in northern Nevada and sells any extra production to NV Energy.
