Registration begins this week for a free business survival workshop developed by a partnership of northern Nevada organizations and businesses.
The workshop is scheduled Feb. 20-21 at the University of Nevada, Reno, campus. Admission is free, but registration is required for the workshop and individual breakout sessions.
Registration opens Wednesday, and the workshop is limited to the first 100 who sign up. (Go to www.extendedstudies.unr.edu and select "Business Survival Workshop" under the heading "Upcoming Professional Development Courses and Programs.")
Judy Haar, president of the Reno chapter of SCORE, one of the sponsors, said the program is designed to help business people weather the recession.
Workshop topics will include:
* Expense control and cash management.
* Marketing strategies for recessionary times.
* How to develop key relationships.
* How to keep financing available.
* How to maintain and improve workforce productivity.
* How to prepare for eventual recovery.
The workshop will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 21. Sessions will be at the UNR Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St.
Organizations involved in developing, participating and sponsoring the event include: SCORE, Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, Sparks-Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; UNR Extended Studies; UNR College of Business; Northern Nevada Business Weekly, Nevada Small Business Development Center; Nevada Microenterprise Initiative; U.S. Small Business Administration; Nevada State Bank; and Heritage Bank.
