Stantec Consulting Inc. said last week it spun off its construction materials engineering unit in Reno to a group of six former Stantec employees.
The newly independent Construction Materials Engineers Inc. is headed by Marty Crew, its president. It provides construction administration, geotechnical, material engineering and testing services. It employs 28.
CME had been part of Stantec's operation in Reno for about 11 years and was the only unit of its type among the 130 Stantec locations in North America.
The Reno office of Stantec employs about 40.
"It made sense that they set out on their own while we continue to focus on our core business," said John Welsh, Reno office leader for Stantec. The Reno office provides planning, civil engineering, structural engineering, environmental remediation and surveying services.
The companies will continue to operate out the same offices at 6980 Sierra Center Parkway.
Crew said Construction Materials Engineers Inc. expects to continue working closely with Stantec. Among recent projects for the companies have been Reno ReTRAC, the Moana Lane extension and the construction of the intersection of Pyramid Highway and La Posada Drive.
