AGC honors top contractors

TNT Construction Inc. and J & J Mechanical Inc. were recognized last week as top general contactor and subcontractor for 2008 by members of the Nevada Chapter of the Associated General Contractors.

The two companies won the chapter's SIR Award an acronym for the AGC motto, "Skill, Integrity and Responsibility."

Founded in 1993, TNT is headed by Fred Taeubel, a pioneer of fast-track construction. Its recent projects include renovation of the St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno.

J &J Mechanical, which specializes in plumbing work on large commercial and public works projects, was founded in 1982 by Margaret Cavin and Jerry Bastasini. This marks the second time it has won the subcontractor award from the industry group.

B & C Builders Supply, a Sparks company owned by Randy Blackwell, was recognized as supplier of the year. Hartman Engineering LLC was honored as design professional of the year the fifth time the company has been recognized.

Individual who were honored include veteran contractors Jack Harker of Harker & Harker Electrical Contractors and Bill Balsi Sr., the founder of Valley Concrete Co.

Carole Vilardo, president of the Nevada Taxpayer's Association, was recognized by the AGC chapter for her advocacy of strong and coherent state tax policies.
