Southwest Gas will be relocating its Fallon office to a new building to be built in Fernley, said a spokesperson for the company headquartered in Las Vegas.

The utility is in the process of acquiring land, as well as accepting bids from architects and general contractors for an expected 10,000- to 12,000-square-foot facility. Southwest Gas has operated an office 148 N. Carson

St. in Fallon for more than 35 years, but the company says the new location at Crossroads Commerce Center is better positioned to serve a broader base of customers.

"As part of the planning process, we chose to strategically position our new operations center where growth is expected to take place, which is north and south along U.S. Interstate 80 and south along U.S. Highway 95A," says spokesperson Sonya Headen.

Upon completion of the new operations center, the building in Fallon will be used as a satellite warehouse. Existing customers in Fallon still can use Fallon-area pay stations, as well as automatic debit and E-billing.

Approximately 20 Southwest Gas employees will staff the new Fernley office, with no new hires expected.
