Charles River Laboratories International laid off approximately 50 workers at its Reno operation.
About 10 percent of the company's workforce in Reno was impacted by the reductions, Amy Cianciaruso, associate director of public relations for the Boston-based company, said last week. Charles River employs about 500 in Reno. Worldwide, the company reduced its 9,000-person workforce by 3 percent.
The company, which provides pre-clinical testing for pharmaceutical companies at its Reno facility, blamed the worldwide recession for the layoffs.
