Diigo.com, a social bookmarking site headquartered in Reno, has partnered with LookSmart to consolidate user bases.
In return for an equity position in Diigo, LookSmart will gradually transfer the one million users of its bookmarking brand, Furl, to Diigo, says Maggie Tsai, vice president corporate development, for Reno
company.
Wade Ren, founder and chief executive officer of Diigo, a privately-held company, says, "With this combination and the upcoming release of Diigo 4.0, Diigo aims to take social bookmarking annotation to a new height."
Diigo currently taps into Google for advertising display and revenue on its site, but "We are exploring other advertising opportunities," says Tsai.
LookSmart also offers targeted pay-per-click search and contextual advertising.
"Workplaces and schools around the world are embracing Diigo," says Tsai. While the company's founders live in Reno, it employs technical staff in China.
