A group that provides professional development and peer support to chief operating officers will begin meeting in the Reno area in April.

The COO Forum, launched in 2004 in the San Francisco Bay Area, links second-in-command executives.

"It gets down to the nitty-gritty issues you have in a company," says Diana Hoffman, who serves as director of the recently created Northern Nevada Chapter of the COO Forum.

The group typically meets monthly for a two-hour breakfast meeting. Members, each of whom has signed a confidentiality agreement, discuss issues they face within their companies and seek other members' advice. Guest speakers sometimes are scheduled.

Hoffman said groups typically include 10 to 20 members at a meeting.

She said participants in the Reno area will represent industries ranging from technology to construction.

Fees run $345 a year. The COO Forum, a for-profit venture of Chief Operating Officer Business Forum Inc. of Saratoga, Calif., also operates chapters in northern California, Dallas and Atlanta.
