Employers Holdings Inc. has begun recruiting for 50 new positions at its Reno corporate headquarters, and a company executive says the workers compensation carrier doesn't expect any problems finding the people it needs.

"We think the skill sets are here," said Martin Welch, president and chief operating officer of the company,

Employers is hiring for positions in information technology, finance, accounting, human resources, administration and insurance operations.

The company, which employed about 175 in Reno before the current round of hiring, is consolidating the headquarters operations of AmCOMP Inc., a Florida workers comp company it acquired last year, into its northern Nevada home office.

A few of the AmCOMP employees have opted to move to northern Nevada, Welch said.

Employers has plenty of room to house its growing staff after it moved into a newly constructed 80,000-

square-foot office building in South Meadows in early 2008.

With the new hires, Employers will have about 1,000 employees nationwide, including 225 in northern Nevada and 125 in Henderson.

Earlier this year, Employers trimmed its overall workforce by about 14 percent, but it didn't detail how many of the cuts were in its Nevada operation and how many were from the AmCOMP operations that it acquired.
