The developers of a new application written for Apple's iPhone hope the program becomes the go-to source for events in Reno and a steady revenue generator as well.
Steve White, Baldo Bobadilla and Hernan Sosa, founders of Reno Passport magazine, created a iPhone app that features a scrollable events calendar, three consecutive issues of the magazine, and a Twitter feed about Reno events.
Event listings cost $25 each, but White says the fee structure is on a sliding scale depending on volume.
"If someone has more events to promote, they will get a better rate," White says. "The app is intended to give people a mobile option out on town whether they are tourists or locals.
"If it's Friday night and they are sitting at Sierra Tap House and are ready for the next element, the can reach into our app to give them some entertainment solutions for the next event."
White hopes the free app will be a hit with casinos and local event producers. The app has the potential to significantly increase revenues because once created it has no additional overhead, he says. A friend of Bobadilla's wrote the programming for the app.
"We are trying to be on the leading edge of technology in town," White says. "If we get enough support, we can help event producers target their customers better and find a way to reach locals who have iPhones and people coming to town with iPhones so that they know what to do when they get here."
Founded in 2007, Reno Passport magazine is created by 20 mostly freelance writers, graphic artists and salespeople.
