Technology companies, executives recognized

Four technology companies in northern Nevada and four technology professionals will be recognized during the annual NCET Awards this month.

The awards, a program of Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, are sponsored by Northern Nevada Business Weekly and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.

SpecTIR LLC and International Game Technology, both of Reno, will be recognized as Technology Companies of the Year. SpecTIR provides remote-sensing systems, and its work ranges from the design of sensors to the delivery of imaging.

IGT develops and manufacturers computerized gaming products and casino systems for markets worldwide.

InTUUN Systems of Reno will be recognized as a Technology Startup. InTUUN is a health care information technology and services company.

Carson City's ElectraTherm will be recognized as Green Company of the year. It's developed systems to generate electricity from waste and geothermal heat or pressure instead of fossil fuels.

Casey Hakansson, the founder of Moment Skis, will be honored as Technology Entrepreneur of he Year. The company produces 16 models of handmade skis at its Reno factory.

Paul Ayoub, senior vice president and chief information officer of EMPLOYERS, will be recognized as CIO/CTO of the year. Paul has been senior vice president and chief information officer of Employers Insurance Company of Nevada and Employers Compensation Insurance Company.

Joe Elcano, educational technology director for the Washoe County School District for the past six years, will be honored as Technology Educator of the Year.

Dave LaPlante, the longtime chief executive officer of Twelve Horses, will be the inaugural inductee into the Greater Reno-Tahoe Technology Hall of Fame. Twelve Horses, a global provider of online marketing services, recently merged with One to One Interactive.

The NCET Awards dinner will be at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa Oct. 14. A cocktail reception starting at 5:30 p.m., will be followed by dinner and the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m.
