A company that provides third-party fulfillment services launched a new facility in Sparks with three employees but it doesn't expect to stay at that level for long.

"Our Tennessee facility grew from two employees to 70 employees in less than three years. We anticipate the same level of growth in Sparks," said Mark Scheidt, a vice president of TechniPak.

The company headquartered at Johnson City, Tenn, leased 15,000 square feet at 695 Vista Blvd.

Scheidt said the company's customers have been urging it to expand farther west for four years. Shipments from Sparks can reach California customers within a day.

The combination of the Sparks location and TechniPak's Tennessee facilities allows customers' shipments to reach 82 percent of the U.S. population within two days or less with ground delivery.

Another factor in the company's decision to locate in Sparks, Scheidt said, is its proximity to the Port of Oakland. TechniPak will handle inbound containers at the northern Nevada distribution center.

TechniPak handles logistics services for companies such as distributors of nutritional supplements, educational tapes and books.

Tom Miller of Miller Industrial Properties represented TechniPak in its lease.
