GameTech International Inc. of Reno lost $91,000 in the 13 weeks ended August 2, which compares with a loss of $488,000 in the comparable period a year earlier.
The maker of electronic bingo equipment and other gaming systems said revenues in the recent quarter totaled $11.4 million, down from $13.4 million a year ago. But it improved its gross margin to nearly 57 percent from last year's 49 percent.
The publicly held company said revenues in its bingo business were soft as bingo halls across the country closed as the result of the recession. Revenues in its video lottery business, meanwhile, were down about $200,000 from year-earlier figures because of regulatory delays in the approval of new software.
GameTech's decision to purchase it own office and manufacturing space in South Meadows a deal it completed in August 2008 played a key role in reducing its operating costs and boosting its margins, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
