The Carson City Chamber of Commerce is launching a structured program to help business owners and managers tap the expertise of chamber members.

The chamber's Business Resource initiative kicks off with a half-day seminar next month on the uses of social media and also will include volunteer consultations offered by chamber members and nonprofit groups with expertise in business management.

Ronni Hannaman, executive director of the chamber, says the organization is developing a list of chamber members who are willing to provide initial consultation for free to other chamber members. The group also is working with organizations such as the SCORE (a group of retired executives) and the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide free business assistance to its members.

Chamber members also will provide seminars on hot topics such as uses of social media and use of the QuickBooks accounting program, Hannaman said.

The chamber has begun taking reservations for the first of the seminars, a session on social media set for the morning of Sept. 21 at the Carson City Elks Lodge. The cost of $25 includes materials and a continental breakfast.
