Kohl's Department Stores Inc. has purchased the former Mervyn's location at 3871 S. Carson St. in Carson City's Eagle Station shopping center.
A spokesman for Kohl's said last week that the company won't yet discuss its plans for the 60,702 building. Carson City officials said they expect a store to be open later this year.
Kohl's, headquartered at Menomonee Falls, Wisc., paid $4 million for the building. It purchased it from a partnership involving Developers Diversified Realty of Beachwood, Ohio. The realty company had owned the building, which was constructed in 1983, since 2005.
Kohl's operates three stores in the Reno-Sparks market. The company operates about 1,050 stores nationally, including three dozen it opened in former Mervyn's locations last fall.
Mervyn's closed the Carson City location in 2008.
