Construction has started on Autumn Village Apartments, a 43-unit affordable housing rental development at Gentry Way and Wrondel in Reno.
The nonprofit Northern Nevada Community Housing Resource Board is developer of the $9 million project.
The project was awarded federal low-income housing tax credits by the Nevada Housing Division in 2008, but the investor market for tax credits plummeted since then. Under the federal stimulus package, the housing division was allowed to "sell" the tax credits to the Treasury Department in exchange for cash to invest in affordable housing projects.
Additional funding comes from the Washoe County HOME Consortium and Idaho-Nevada Community Development Financial Institution.
Q&D Construction of Sparks is general contractor on the project that was designed by Bartlett Architecture Inc. of Reno. Hunter Creek Engineering provided civil engineering services, and Pezonella Associates Inc., of Reno will provide construction testing. Ann Harrington of Reno is a development consultant to the project.
